Welcome to the Team, Annabelle!

Annabelle Oberg has joined the BBER research team

Meet the Bureau of Business and Economic Research’s (BBER) newest undergraduate research assistant.

We’re excited to have Annabelle Oberg join the student team of Sam Shaw and Ava Klennert. Annabelle started on September 22.  We’ve been getting to know her and are sharing some highlights with you.

Here’s what she had to say in response to our soft-hitting investigative questions.

Tell us about yourself

I have a Statistics and Actuarial Science major with an Economics minor. I’m from Ham Lake, Minnesota, and enjoy golfing, watching football and basketball, going on walks, reading, and painting nails. In high school I did all of my friends' nails for prom!

What inspired you to apply for the research assistant position?

I applied for the research assistant position to be able to work with real data from the community. I have done research projects in the past for classes, but the data has always been found online. The opportunity to work with data and have a real impact on the community excites me.

If you could research any local economic development topic, what would it be? And why?

I would like to research something to do with sports. Hockey is really big in Duluth, but anything sports related is something I am very interested in.

How do you see your position at the BBER helping you achieve your goals after college?

Post college, I plan to pursue a career as an actuary. The BBER position will help me achieve my goal because I will gain experience with analyzing data. As an actuary, analyzing data is a large part of the job and having experience with that will help me stand out against other job candidates.
