Ava Klennert joins the Bureau’s research team

Meet the Bureau of Business and Economic Research’s (BBER) newest undergraduate research assistant.

We’re excited to have Ava Klennert, who joined us May 14, at the BBER. She and Sam Shaw, who started last fall, are our summer undergraduate research assistants. We’ve been enjoying getting to know Ava and share some of her background info with you below.

Q: Tell us about yourself (e.g. major, hometown, hobbies, anything interesting or unusual you’d like to share about yourself)

I am a junior here at UMD majoring in Economics with a minor in Sustainable Business and Organizations. I am from a very small town in northern Minnesota called Hill City. I enjoy reading, hiking, drawing, and playing volleyball!

Q: What inspired you to apply for the research assistant position?

I applied for the research position with the BBER because I thought it would be great experience in the field that I am heavily interested in. I enjoy working on research projects for classes, so this opportunity really stood out to me!

Q: If you could research any local economic development topic, what would it be? And why?

Since I grew up around the Iron Range and have in interest in natural resource economics, I would enjoy researching the economic impact of the mining industry in northern Minnesota.

Q: How do you see your position at the BBER helping you achieve your goals after college?

Currently, I am undecided on whether I want to attend grad school or go straight into the workforce after graduating. My long-term goal is to continue working in the field of economics. I think this BBER position will provide me with valuable and relevant experience that will be extremely useful in achieving my goals.
