One of the primary goals of the Financial Markets Program is to provide "hands-on" learning. Through not only the Financial Markets Lab, but through experiencing the financial industry first hand and real time.
Annabel Stahlback
Annabel graduated from Rogers High School in 2021 and is pursuing her B.B.A in Financial Markets-Finance alongside minoring in Business Analytics and Accounting. Last year Annabel interned with Best Buy in several roles ranging from Business Licensing Assistant to a Financial Analyst role and will be pursuing an FP&A role with the company after she graduates. Annabel enjoys spending her time traveling and watching historical documentaries.
Brady Tjugum
Brady graduated from Tomahawk Highschool in 2020 and is currently a senior at UMD. He will graduate in May 2024 with a BBA in Financial Markets Finance and Risk Management & Insurance. Last summer, Brady interned at Church Mutual Insurance S.I. as an underwriter. In addition to the Financial Markets Program, he is an officer for the Rod & Gun Club at UMD. His interests outside of school include fishing for burbot or musky and just being able to spend time on the water either on a boat or ice fishing.
Brian Hennes
Brian Graduated from New Prague High School in 2020 and is currently a senior at the University of Minnesota Duluth. Brian is on track to graduate in the spring of 2024 with a B.B.A in Financial Markets, Finance. He is a strongman competitor, with hopes of qualifying for the United States Strongman nationals in 2024. Along with this, he is a personal trainer, helping his clients achieve their fitness and health goals. Brian oversees the Energy and Utilities sectors and is responsible for having a deep understanding of these markets. Over the summer, Brian interned for Blue Star Investments LLC, an Anytime Fitness franchisee, where he was responsible for projects in their finance, acquisition and accounting departments. Upon graduation, Brian plans to pursue a career in the financial services industry.
Damien G
Damien graduated from ROCORI High School and is currently a senior at the University of Minnesota Duluth. He expects to graduate in May of 2024 with a B.B.A in Financial Markets Finance and a B.A.A in Economics. Damien is also one of the student directors this year for the Financial Markets Program. Last summer, he interned at Inspire Medical Systems as a Finance Intern. In addition to participating in the Financial Markets Program, he is participating in the CFA Research Challenge and is also the Vice President of the UMD Investment Club. His interests outside of school are hiking, mountain biking, watching sports (especially football and the UFC), and traveling. After graduating, he plans to pursue a challenging career in the buy or sell side of finance with aspirations of eventually becoming a portfolio manager.
Ethan Baumgartner
Ethan graduated from Andover School in 2020 and is currently a senior at the University of Minnesota Duluth. He will be graduating in May 2024 with a B.B.A. in Financial Markets-Finance. Over the summer, he worked at Donaldson Filtration Solution as a Financial Planning and Analysis intern. In his free time, Ethan enjoys playing frisbee golf in the summer and snowboarding in the winter. Upon graduation, he plans to focus on completing a master's in financial mathematics.
Jack Ferry
Jack graduated from Elk River High School in 2020 and is currently a senior at the University of Minnesota - Duluth. Jack will be graduating in the spring of 2024 with a B.B.A. in Financial Markets, Finance. He interned with CHS Inc, over the summer working in the Finance Department and is continuing this role over the course of the school year. Jack will be participating in the CFA Institute Research Challenge this year. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, and playing hockey. Upon graduation, Jack plans on taking a career path in the Finance industry.
Jack Puder
Jack graduated from Blaine High School in 2020 and is currently a senior at UMD. He is pursuing a B.B.A. in Financial Markets Finance and is set to graduate in the spring of 2024. Jack is in his 4th year of playing baseball at UMD, and he’s also a part of the Investment Club and Sales Club. Outside of school, he enjoys watching sports and spending time with family and friends. He first learned about the stock market from his grandpa and has been intrigued ever since. After graduation, Jack plans to pursue a career in Equity Research.
Jackson Hren
Jackson graduated from Duluth East High School in 2020, and he earned his A.A. at Lake Superior Community College in 2021. He is currently a senior at the University of Minnesota Duluth, where he is on track to graduate in the spring of 2024 with a B.B.A. in Financial Markets and Financial Planning. This year, Jackson is participating in the CFA Institute Research Challenge. In his free time, he loves to golf in the summer and play hockey in the winter, and when he has the opportunity, he loves to travel. Jackson also enjoys spending time with his friends and family, and he spends his evenings lifting weights. Upon graduation, Jackson plans to pursue a career in the financial planning industry, where he intends to work towards obtaining his CFP certification.
Jacob Ring
Jacob Graduated from Stillwater Area High School in 2020 and is currently a senior here at the University of Minnesota Duluth. He is pursuing a double major in Finance and Financial Markets. Last summer, he interned at RBC Wealth Management, gaining experience in research and wealth management. In his free time, Jacob enjoys hiking, fishing, and taking trips to his cabin. Upon graduation, Jacob looks forward to a career in the financial services industry.
Jacob Sorensen
Jacob Sorensen graduated from Monticello High School in 2020 and is currently a Senior at the University of Minnesota, Duluth. Jacob will graduate in Spring 2024 with a major in Financial Markets Finance and a minor in Economics. Additionally, he serves as the Public Relations Officer for the Investment Club. Outside of school, he enjoys going on long hikes, and spending time with friends and family. After graduation, Jacob plans on pursuing a career in the Financial Services Industry.
Luke Persons
Luke graduated from Superior High School in 2020 and is currently a senior at the University of Minnesota Duluth. Luke will graduate in May of 2024 with a B.B.A. in Financial Markets, Finance, and Management Information Systems, along with a minor in Economics. This year, Luke is participating in the CFA Institute Research Challenge, with plans to work towards earning his CFA designation once completing undergraduate study. Upon graduation, Luke intends to begin work in the capital markets industry in the Twin Cities area, with hopes of pursuing a graduate degree in a quantitative field. In his spare time, he enjoys watching football, playing cards with his friends, and fishing at his cabin in Wisconsin.
Mason Dejoy
Mason graduated from Prior Lake High School in 2020 and is currently a senior at the University of Minnesota Duluth. Mason is on track to graduate in the spring of 2024 with a B.B.A. in Financial Markets. He has a variety of work experience ranging from customer service and lower management roles. In his free time, Mason enjoys watching sports including football and basketball, along with playing sports such as basketball, golf, snowboarding, and water sports. After his education, Mason hopes to pursue a career in portfolio management, financial advising, or wealth management.
Mason Dempsey
Mason graduated from Little Falls High School in 2019 and is currently a senior at the University of Duluth, Minnesota. After high school, he enlisted in the Minnesota Air National Guard, and he is still fulfilling his contract today. Mason has been a part of the Outreach Committee and is currently serving his second term on the Student Service Fee Committee. Outside of school, Mason enjoys hiking, playing sports, and finding hidden gems in local restaurants. After graduation, Mason plans to pursue a career in the Financial Services Industry.
Matt Nelson
Matt graduated from Mounds View High School in 2020 and is currently a senior at the University of Minnesota Duluth. Matt will graduate in May 2024 with a B.B.A in Financial Markets, Finance. Apart from school, Matt enjoys pickup basketball, chess, and investing in his personal portfolio. Matt plans to participate in the CFA research challenge this year. Upon graduation, Matt looks forward to a career in the financial services industry.
Mitchell O'Sell
Riley graduated from Park Christian High School in 2022 and is currently a senior at the University of Minnesota - Duluth. Riley will be graduating in the spring of 2024 with a BBA in Financial Markets Finance and Finance. Riley spent this past summer as an FP&A intern at Stryker where he got an inside look into how a Fortune 500 operates and gained experience analyzing and reporting financial performance metrics. Riley’s current extracurricular activities include participating in the CFA Research Challenge as well as serving on the Investment Club Committee. In his spare time, Riley enjoys hiking, lifting weights, and going to the beach. Upon graduation, Riley looks forward to a challenging and fulfilling career in the financial services industry.
Riley Keller
Riley Keller graduated from Champlin Park High School in the Spring of 2020. He is a senior at the University of Minnesota Duluth pursuing a B.B.A. in Financial Markets Finance. Riley plans to compete in the CFA Research Challenge this year and is an active member of the investment club. Aside from school, he likes to stay involved on campus with intramural sports and spends his free time watching movies, hanging out with friends, playing golf, snowboarding, and getting outdoors. Upon graduation, he hopes to pursue a career in the financial services industry and one day start his own commercial real estate investment firm.
Tyler M
Tyler graduated from Duluth East High School in 2020 and is currently a senior at the University of Minnesota Duluth. He is on track to graduate in the spring of 2024 with a B.B.A. in Financial Markets Finance. This year, Tyler is one of the student directors of the Financial Markets Program and will be participating in the CFA Research Challenge. Additionally, he is the Education Officer of the Investment Club, where he loves to teach students about trading strategies. He is also the Vice President of Alpha Delta National Fraternity at UMD. In the summer of 2023, Tyler was employed at Cleveland Research Company as an Equity Research Analyst intern, where he gained valuable experience in financial modeling, equity analysis, and channel research. His previous internship experiences include Portfolio Management with MPPL Financial in Duluth, and Quantitative Trading with Hudson River Trading in New York City. In his spare time, you can find Tyler playing golf, rock climbing, or hiking with his two Siberian Huskies, Luna & Nanook. Upon graduation, he will begin his career as an equity research analyst at Cleveland Research Company.
Zach Lanners
Zach graduated from St. Michael - Albertville High School in 2020 and is currently a senior at the University of Minnesota Duluth. Zach will graduate in May of 2024 with a B.B.A in Financial Markets, Finance. In his free time, he enjoys making music, playing basketball, and lifting weights, along with doing his own research for his personal portfolio. In addition to the Financial Markets Program, Zach plans to participate in the CFA research challenge this year. Upon graduation, he is excited to begin his career in the financial services industry.
