Trent Nelson, Academic Advisor

In his role as an Academic Advisor in the Advising and Academic Services Department, Nelson primarily assists students with being successful as they navigate their college careers. He provides guidance on majors, minors, policies/procedures, graduation requirements, registration, study habits, and time management among other things. He also collaborates with UMD Housing to implement the BizDogs Living Learning Community to help these students build a strong community during their first year at UMD.

"The best part of my job is seeing the growth that students have while here at UMD and getting the opportunity to celebrate with them when they finish major accomplishments. This part of the job is even sweeter when students are able to break through major obstacles. I always enjoy the thanks that students give when I am able to help them find solutions to difficult situations where they were stuck.”

In his free time, Nelson enjoys “getting out my smoker to make some good food for my family. Right now, my two favorite things to smoke are pulled pork and ribs.”
