Ruby Nancy holds a doctorate in Rhetoric, Writing, and Professional Communication from East Carolina University, where she also earned a graduate certificate in Multicultural and Transnational Literatures. She is an active member of the Association for Business Communication, where she participates in the Rhetoric SIG and presents at ABC’s annual international conference. She is also a member of the Coalition of Feminist Scholars in the History of Rhetoric and Composition and is part of the Coalition’s social media team.
Dr. Nancy holds an MPA with an emphasis in executive leadership development from Drake University and holds an MA in English with an emphasis in writing studies from Western Illinois University, where she also earned graduate certificates in Professional Writing and in Teaching Writing. Previous professional experience includes work in journalism, in entertainment production, and as a business owner.
Her research interests include technical writing in nonprofit and B-Corp organizations, the rhetorics of dress and adornment, queer feminist rhetorics, citation as a rhetorical practice, the use of social media for live-tweeting professional discourse, and community writing projects related to activist discourse.
This faculty member is interested in working with students on research.
She is an Assistant Editor of the Best of the Journals in Rhetoric and Composition 2021, and she has a chapter in The Routledge Handbook of Queer Rhetoric (2022). Her published work has appeared in regional daily newspapers and weekly entertainment publications as well as The Journal of American Culture and The International Journal of Business Communication.
