Introducing our newest undergraduate research assistant

Mahad started October 24, joining the Bureau of Business and Economic Research undergraduate research assistant team of Mitchell Bakken and Avery Wendinger. The BBER has a really great group of student researchers! Learn more about Mahad below.

Tell us about yourself.

I'm from Blaine, Minnesota, and I'm currently majoring in political science with a minor in economics. My hobbies are playing sports, running, hiking, and snowboarding. I also enjoy working on cars.

What inspired you to apply for the research assistant position?

I was inspired to apply because I wanted a job that would prepare me for the future and is also in my related field. This position will allow me to gain real world experience and will help improve my research skills.

If you could research any local economic development topic, what would it be?

One local economic development topic I would like to research is outdoor recreation in Duluth. The main reason I came to school at UMD was because of the many outdoor recreation opportunities. I would love to investigate how improving Duluth’s parks and outdoor recreation brings new people to the city and how it helps Duluth's economy.

How do you see your position at the BBER helping you achieve your goals after college?

After college I plan on attending graduate school. By working at the BBER, I will gain new skills by working on projects, helping clients, and writing reports. My experience here and the projects I work on will help give me a head start to achieving my goals.
