Underscoring its commitment to the students’ experience, Marvin Windows, competition host, flew students from LSBE and North Dakota State University to Warroad in a corporate jet for the event!
The competition involved multi-stage sales scenarios where students posed as Marvin sales representatives and needed to convince a home builder to consider Marvin’s fiberglass products. Company executives served as judges, providing feedback and evaluating students for potential job offers. Of the 24 students, nine advanced to the final stage. Beyond participating in the competition, students also toured the company and participated in social events.
Storlie and Blomquist understand the importance of participating in competitions.
“Competitions are the biggest confidence boosters that I’ve found on campus,” said Storlie. “They are also a great way to grow closer to your teammates and the faculty—getting to know people outside of the classroom.”
Added Blomquist, “when selling during a competition, we get to work with real businesses and get real time feedback to make our pitches relevant to how sales are actually carried out in the real world. Also, the ability to connect with students from different schools across the country—individuals who are like-minded and pursuing similar careers—is irreplaceable.”
