Georgina Spears, Executive Office and Administrative Specialist for the Department of Marketing

Spears provides administrative support to 11 full-time faculty, which includes the Consumer Insights and Analytics and Professional Sales program directors and the faculty advisor for the Marketing Graphic Design major. In her role, Spears assists with all things relating to finances/budget and class scheduling and logistics. She provides guidance on university policy and procedures and bridges what faculty are looking to accomplish in their research/teaching/service roles. Additionally, she serves as an event planner for alumni gatherings. With the variety of tasks, each day is different, which Spears says is one of the best qualities of her job.

“I love helping people on even the smallest level and working with bright students as well as watching their successes!

Also qualifying as one of the best parts of her job is “working in a school with people who make up the LSBE family—all caring and striving for the same goal of being the best you can be. Everyone—even those who've since retired—provides a sense of community in which I feel valued not just as an employee but also as a friend.”

Originally from South Africa, Spears was a Rotary International exchange student for a year after she graduated from high school and was stationed in Duluth.

“The people I met during my exchange year and the experience I had impacted my decision to return to Duluth to call it home.” She has been a U.S. citizen since 2016.

Another fun factoid is that Spears has family members on four continents (North America, Europe, Africa, and Australia).

Outside of work, Spears is kept busy raising four children with her husband, Ryan, as well as handling the bookkeeping and assisting in the management/operation of their local rental property business. She enjoys watching her children play sports as well as RV camping.
