LSBE Dean Amy Hietapelto

Amy B. Hietapelto, dean of the Labovitz School of Business and Economics, will give a presentation on Equal Pay Day titled “The Gender Pay Gap: Closed Yet?” The presentation is free, open to the public, and will be held tomorrow (Tuesday, April 2) from 5–6 p.m. in the UMD Kathryn A. Martin Library Rotunda Reading Room located on the 4th floor.

What Is the Gender Pay Gap?

Although Congress enacted the Equal Pay Act in 1963, huge gender pay disparities continue today, over fifty years later. Typically, women are paid only 80 cents for every dollar paid to men. Holding Equal Pay Day on a Tuesday symbolically indicates how far into the following week women must work to earn what men earned the previous week.

This event is sponsored by the American Association of University Women Duluth,  League of Women Voters Duluth, Duluth Human Rights Commission, and CEDAW (Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women) Duluth Task Force.
