LSBE students with aspirations of starting their own businesses one day can gain the specific skills and knowledge needed for their ventures through LSBE's new Entrepreneurship Major. Classes for the Entrepreneurship Major are currently available for the school's Fall 2014 session.

Encompassing upper-division credit classes based in entrepreneurship, management, marketing, finance, and business law, students will be well equipped for the challenges and rewards of starting a business, graduating with a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree.

"Focusing on the economic vitality of our local area, the state of Minnesota, and with far-reaching implications even globally, LSBE is playing a large role of educating students to lead in the creation of sustainable business ventures," said LSBE Dean Amy B. Hietapelto.

"In today's competitive and ever-changing global marketplace, we are very pleased to expand our wealth of offerings to include the Entrepreneurship Major to students who seek to capitalize on their entrepreneurial potential," Hietapelto added.

"We have been discussing an Entrepreneurship Major for several years and are happy to see the major become a reality," said Jennifer Mencl, Management Studies Department Chair. "Students have expressed a great deal of interest in an Entrepreneurship Major, and we look forward to growing a program with the major as a core component."

Numerous programmatic components, such as a mentoring program, business plan competitions, field trips to entrepreneurs' companies, entrepreneurship internships, and many other extracurricular elements, will be integrated into the entrepreneurship student experience, as well.

The combination of responsibility and diverse knowledge and skills gained through the Entrepreneurship Major makes career opportunities for top management and leadership positions viable within organizations. Some of the career options for aspiring entrepreneurs include small business owners, family business managers, social entrepreneurs, sales and marketing managers, construction managers, health service managers, and financial advisors.
