LSBE's Beta Gamma Sigma chapter was again recognized as a Premier Chapter, a distinction it has received for many years. Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) is an international honor society for academic achievement in the study of business, which also fosters personal and professional excellence.
To be recognized as Premier, a chapter has to have an acceptance rate of at least 85 percent of students invited to join. Membership is the highest recognition a business student anywhere in the world can receive in an undergraduate, master's or doctoral program at a school accredited by AACSB International.
Premier Chapters are qualified to participate in the Outstanding Chapter competition. Outstanding Chapter winners receive scholarships in four categories - Honorable Mention $500, Bronze $1,000, Silver $1,250, and Gold $1,500.
Additionally Premier Chapters are eligible to compete for the Outstanding Chapter Advisor Award and are able to participate in the Scholarship program for individual students. LSBE’s Jing Lv, a senior with a double major of Finance and Statistical and Actuarial Science, was awarded one of the prestigious 2013 Beta Gamma Sigma $1,000 scholarships.
Each spring, LSBE inducts those who have accepted invitation into BGS, which is also considered the business school equivalent of the liberal arts Phi Beta Kappa.
Students ranking in the top 10 percent of their junior or senior class and top 20 percent of master's programs at schools accredited by AACSB International are eligible for this invitation to honor society membership. Globally, only 672 business schools are accredited by AACSB.
BGS was founded as a United States national organization in 1913. Currently, there are more than 700,000 BGS lifetime members in more than 160 countries.
