Getting Windows on your Mac
You are here
Install VirtualBox and open the application. Click on the “new” button. This will help you build a new virtual machine. You will be required to name the new virtual machine. You can use any name for example “Windows 10 64bit” For the type, select “Microsoft Windows” and the version, “Windows 10”. Click on “continue.”
There are other settings you can specify for the Virtual machine. The memory is one of them. The VirtualBox will give you suggestions on how much you can allocate for the machine. You may increase this by using the slider (50% of your Ram). If you have 4GB of RAM, set it to 2048, if you have 8GB of RAM, set it to 4096.
Clicking on the “continue” button will give you the option to determine the kind of drive you want to create. Choose VDI (VirtualBox Disk Image) or VMDK. As for the storage option, let it remain dynamically allocated. When given the option to select the size of the disk, make it 50GB or bigger. Your Virtual machine is now created and ready to use.
Make sure the virtual machine you just created is selected, click on “Start” and you will be prompted to select where Windows is to be installed from. To choose the Windows 10 ISO file you downloaded, click on the folder icon.
Windows Setup will load. Choose the keyboard and language and click next button. Click on “Install now”. Enter the product key for Windows 10 Education from the Kivuto store if asked. Pick “Custom: Install Windows only”, select the “Unallocated Space” partition and click “New”, it’ll create two new partitions. Click “Next.”
Wait until Windows installs. Enter the product key for Windows 10 Education from the Kivuto store if you didn’t earlier. Once the “Get going fast” screen appears, you can go through it with the defaults. Once you’re on the “Choose how you’ll connect” screen, choose “Join a domain” and click “Continue”. You won’t actually join a domain, but it’ll let you set up a local account. Enter a name and password for your virtual machine. Click “Next” and let the computer finish processing.
Windows 10 should finish booting and automatically log in!
Install Guest Additions by heading to Devices > Insert Guest Additions CD Image (at the top of the VirtualBox window). You should see the guest additions “disc” in the “CD drive”. Double-click on it and they’ll install just like any other program.
