Faculty and Staff Awards and Recognitions

Richard Brown, LSBE Senior Fellow and CEO of JNBA Financial Advisors, was rated the top financial advisor in Minnesota by America's premier financial magazine Barron's. Also, for the fifth year in a row, JNBA has been named to Barron's list of the 1,200 top advisors in the country.

Professor of Marketing Dr. Rajiv Vaidyanathan was named to the Editorial Review Board of the Journal of Consumer Marketing. He also delivered the keynote address at the College of Pharmacy Research Symposium in March.

The Center for Economic Development and Northeast Regional Office of the Minnesota Small Business Development Center Network was named the Minnesota SBDC Center of Excellence of the Year by the U.S. Small Business Administration.

A paper co-authored by LSBE Associate Professor of Management Dr. Geoffrey C. Bell was nominated for the 2013 Canadian Journal of Administrative Sciences Best Paper Award. Bell co-authored his study, titled "Beyond clusters: How regional geographic signature affects firm value and risk," with Saiying Deng, assistant professor of finance at Southern Illinois University College of Business. One winning paper and one honorable mention were awarded. Bell and Deng's paper received the honorable mention.

LSBE Assistant Professor of Health Care Management Dr. Kim Nichols Dauner and Jack Thompson (B.A., B.B.A. '12), former UMD health services research consultant, published an article in The Qualitative Report. Titled, "Young Adult's Perspectives on Being Uninsured and Implications for Health Reform," the article is in volume 19, issue 1 of the journal.

Dr. Dauner, along with LSBE Associate Professor of Economics Dr. Jennifer Schultz, also published an article in the American Journal of Health Education. Daunder and Schultz published the article with UMD Associate Professors of Communication Dr. Rebecca De Souza and Dr. Ryan Goei, UMD Assistant Professor of Clinical Counseling Dr. Lara LaCaille, UMD Associate Professor of Psychology Dr. Rick LaCaille, UMD Associate Professor of Public Health Education and Promotion Dr. Amy L. LSBE Associate Professor of Taxation and Business Law Randall K. Skalberg published the article, "Quality Stores Case Refund Opportunity or Trap for Tennessee Employers?" in volume 59, issue 1 of the Tennessee CPA Journal.

LSBE Assistant Professor of Economics Dr. Gibson Nene published an article in the International Research Journal of Applied Finance with faculty from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, including Professor of Agricultural Economics Dr. Azzeddine Azzam, Associate Professor of Agricultural Economics Dr. Amalia (Emie) Yiannaka, and Professor of Statistics Dr. Stephen Katchman. Featured in volume 4, issue 11 of the journal, the article is titled, "The Effect of Wal-Mart on the Economic Growth of Nebraska Counties." 

Dr. Nene, along with LSBE senior economics major and finance minor Bret Gitar and University of Wisconsin-Stout Assistant Professor of Social Sciences Dr. Inoussa Boubacar, also published an article in Economic Papers: A Journal of Applied Economics and Policy. Featured in volume 33, issue 1 of the journal, the article is titled, "The Effect of Land Reform on Poverty: The Case of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Countries."

LSBE Assistant Professor of Accounting Dr. Daniel Hsiao and Assistant Professor of Finance Dr. Yan Hu published the article, "International Evidence of Spillover Effects of Deposit Rates: A Multivariate GARCH Model" in volume 8, issue 1 of the International Journal of Business and Finance Research.

LSBE Finance and Management Information Sciences Department Chair and Professor of Management Information Systems Dr. Dahui Li published an article in the Information & Management Journal with coauthors Dr. Haichao Zheng, Dr. Jing Wu and Dr. Xun Yu, all from the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics in China. The article, "The Role of Multidimensional Social Capital in Crowdfunding: A Comparative Study in China and US," was featured in volume 51 of the publication.

Dr. Jennifer Mencl, LSBE associate professor of human resource management and organizational behavior, published an article in the Journal of Leadership and Organization Studies with University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire College of Business Management Professor Dr. Scott W. Lester. Titled, "More Alike than Different: What Generations Value and How the Values Affect Employee Workplace Perceptions," the article is featured in the April 2014 journal publication.

LSBE Assistance Professor of Operations and Health Care Management Dr. Jill Klingner along with co-authors from the University of Minnesota Michelle Casey, Dr. Ira Moscovice, and Shailendra Prasad published the article "Rural Relevant Quality Measures for Critical Access Hospitals" in volume 29, issue 2 of the Journal of Rural Health.

LSBE Morse-Alumni Distinguished Professor of Organization and Management Dr. Jon L. Pierce published an article in the Journal of Organizational Behavior with Dr. Graham Brown, assistant professor of entrepreneurship and Tim Price Entrepreneurship Fellow at the University of Victoria Peter B. Gustavson School of Business in Canada, and Dr. Craig Crossley, Assistant Professor of Management at the University of Central Florida College of Business Administration. The article, "Toward an Understanding of the Development of Ownership Feelings," is featured in volume 35, issue 3 of the journal.

LSBE Associate Professor of Management Information Systems Dr. Nik R. Hassan published the article, "Value of IS Research: Is there a Crisis?" in volume 34 of the journal Communications of the Association for Information Systems.
