Finance is the management of funds. As a finance major, you will learn to plan for the long term. Students who pursue a major in finance can prepare for a number of career opportunities including controllership and treasury areas of corporations. At LSBE, faculty will teach you how to best use tools to analyze financial situations. In your first finance course, FMIS 3601, you will be introduced to the fundamental concepts of managerial financial decision making. With a degree in Finance from LSBE, you will be able to work in security houses, trust banking, pension and mutual fund industries, commercial lending, bank management, and the financial services industry.
LSBE's Financial Markets Program will provide you with an educational experience directly applicable to the Financial Services Industry. Students selected to participate in the program are given the opportunity to directly apply learned ideas, theories, and tools. The LSBE Financial Markets Program rests on three pillars of support: Academic Studies, the Wells Fargo Financial Markets Lab, and Bulldog Fund, LLC. Real knowledge is gained through application. Skills gained from the experience form basis of a sound decision making and success; not only for today, but throughout your career. Financial Markets Minor
The Financial Planning Minor Program provides you with the knowledge necessary to become a Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®). The real world application and intensive curriculum prepare you for internships and, ultimately, a rewarding career as a Financial Planner. This program utilizes the state-of-the-art Learning Center constructed in partnership with TD Ameritrade, JNBA Financial Advisors, Inc, and UMD that allows you to receive a hands-on approach while also taking courses. Financial Planning Minor
Management Information Systems
Management Information Systems (MIS) is the design, implementation, support, and management of information systems. All aspects of business use some form of an information system. Students who enroll in this major will learn how to put technology to work. As an MIS student, you will learn how to deal with practical problems and how to create technology-based solutions to organization problems. In FMIS 2201, you will be introduced to IT concepts including computer hardware, software, use of personal productivity tools, such as spreadsheets, databases, system development processes, and web technologies. With a degree in MIS from LSBE, you will be able to work as a chief information officer, computer specialist, programmer, designer, system analyst, or project manager.
